Roberta Roland was on the air with WJLD in 1944, and WBCO had Willa Lee \"Honey\" Brown on air 1951 - 1952, and Lora Gary from 1952, who later switched stations to WJLD. In the late 1970s, Charlotte Mitchell worked the night shift at WJLD, and was known to her listeners as \"Miss Love.\" Their stories, and those of other Black women in the Birmingham Black radio commuity, are shared here.<\/p>","credits":"Curated by Emily Bibb","featured":1,"public":1,"theme":"","theme_options":"a:3:{s:6:\"berlin\";a:6:{s:11:\"footer_text\";s:0:\"\";s:24:\"display_footer_copyright\";s:1:\"1\";s:19:\"use_advanced_search\";s:1:\"0\";s:17:\"item_file_display\";s:1:\"0\";s:4:\"logo\";N;s:12:\"header_image\";N;}s:7:\"seasons\";a:7:{s:11:\"style_sheet\";s:5:\"night\";s:4:\"logo\";s:36:\"4dcd395d52ead1bfe4046cd7b7a3e73b.png\";s:11:\"footer_text\";s:0:\"\";s:24:\"display_footer_copyright\";s:1:\"1\";s:17:\"item_file_gallery\";s:1:\"1\";s:19:\"use_advanced_search\";s:1:\"0\";s:12:\"exhibits_nav\";s:4:\"side\";}s:7:\"default\";a:12:{s:10:\"text_color\";s:7:\"#444444\";s:16:\"background_color\";s:7:\"#FFFFFF\";s:10:\"link_color\";s:7:\"#888888\";s:12:\"button_color\";s:7:\"#000000\";s:17:\"button_text_color\";s:7:\"#FFFFFF\";s:18:\"header_title_color\";s:7:\"#000000\";s:11:\"footer_text\";s:976:\"<span>Paid for in part by the Institute for Museum and Library Services, the Alabama Department of Archives and History's NHPRC Regents Program, the Daniel Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.<br \/><br \/><span style=\"color: #444444; font-family: 'PT Serif',Times, serif; font-size: 16px;\">Due to the current Covid-19 quarantine, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute closed for visitation on March 15, 2020.
